Basic Theory of the Project
Effective Leadership and administration are vital to any organization whether it is a political, a corporate, a social, or a religious organization. This requires one or more individuals in the organization to inspire and introduce an effective framework to implement these and motivate the members of the institution towards the vision of organization. In recent history we have seen different types of leaders ruling the world and different styles of leadership being advocated by different lobbies of intellectual classes in the society. But there has been always an inconsistency and thus the Global economy and society had gone through different cycles of upheavals due to the leadership.
But in Indian history we have seen leaders who have effectively and efficiently worked for the benefit of people at times when they ruled not only a nation but the entire globe. But today we have dearth of leaders who can influence masses rather we have been disappointed by their conduct and personal character.
So the challenge is, can we inspire such leadership again?
Need for the Project
Nations and society needs leadership and administration inspired from principles which come from a common ground and a strong philosophy that bounds it. As mentioned above, we have seen in Indian history numerous such leaders because their behavior and style was inspired from common ground and philosophy provided by Vedic scriptures.
Vedic Society was the most organized society in which intellectuals i.e. brahamanas would provide vision and guidance while Kshatriyas used their expertise in administration to lead society towards spiritual perfection. Srimad Bhagavatam depicts the picture of such society. The version of Srimad Bhagavatam commented by ISKCON Founder Acharya H.D.G. A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada gives insight into the cultural aspects of the Vedic society, including leadership and administration. Srila Prabhupada speaks on this point at various places in his purports revealing very important principles of leadership and administration.
This necessitates the study of those principles and presenting Srimad Bhagavatam’s view on leadership and administration.
Approach / Work
We have gone through verses and purports of Srimad Bhagavatam commented by H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and collected the exact text which directs or indicates principles of Leadership and Administration.
For brevity and convenience we have verbalized the texts as some principles in our language with ISKCON keeping the meaning intact. As we progressed ahead these principles collective gave rise to some superimposing principles and guidelines that can presented as a framework for leadership and administration.
Conclusion / Results
- A document with references of pastimes and Srila Prabhupada purports from Srimad Bhagavatam which we have considered to derive concepts and principles.
- A report that presents all principles, concepts and a framework for leadership and administration derived from above mentioned references. For each principle there will be supporting quotes from purports.
